Door Lock Fault After Self-Clean

The cycle has finished, the kitchen smells of burnt-off soil, and the door is still shut. Most of these calls arrive inside the half hour a Viking oven spends cooling before the latch is allowed to let go.

Two Viking codes sit on the latch, and they are raised for different reasons.

F01 is the position report: the control expects the lock unlocked while the oven cooks and locked while it cleans, and says so when the answer is neither. F07 is raised when the door reads open during a clean cycle, which the documentation puts down to a failed latch, a failed sensor, or a door opened before the latch engaged.

Neither clears itself by rerunning the cycle.

Two latch codes and what each one saw
CodeWhat the control sawWhat it usually means
F01 The lock not in the unlocked position during a cook, or not locked during a clean. A latch that has stopped moving cleanly, or stopped reporting.
F07 The door open during a clean cycle. A failed latch, a failed sensor, or a door opened too early.
Locked door, no code A cavity still hot enough for the latch to stay engaged. Nothing wrong, with cooling time still to run.

Follow-ups

How long should I wait before the door is stuck rather than cooling?

Give it the published cooling time first: about half an hour after the roughly three and a half hour cycle ends. A door still locked well past that, with the oven cold, is a fault. Ring Viking Pro Repair Denver on (720) 790-9436.

Can the door be opened early if there is food inside?

No, and it is the one place we ask people not to improvise. The latch is holding a cavity that has run at cleaning temperature, and forcing it damages the door as well. Call Viking Pro Repair Denver on (720) 790-9436.

Why did the code appear when I had not run a clean cycle?

Because the latch is watched during ordinary cooking too. If the board reads it as anything other than unlocked while the oven heats, it raises the same fault. Describe what you were doing to Viking Pro Repair Denver on (720) 790-9436.
