Denver · Knowing the oven
Find Your Viking Oven's Model and Series
When an oven misbehaves and nobody can find the plate, what we usually find is that the number was never lost — it is simply somewhere other than where the last appliance kept it. Viking prints it in one place on its built-in ovens and in another on its gas wall oven, and the two are nothing alike.
Every diagnosis here begins with the same two lines of text, because a Viking oven is not one appliance. Cavity, control, igniter and part number all follow from the family, and the family is on a plate fitted at the factory.
Electric wall oven
One cavity or two in a cabinet column, elements above and below. The plate is at the top left of the door opening, under the control panel.
French door oven
A built-in whose door parts down the middle. Same guide as the electric wall ovens, and the same plate position.
Gas wall oven
Built in like the others, lit by a burner under the cavity floor. The exception: its tag is on the base, behind the lower access panel.
Range oven, gas
The cavity under a professional gas cooktop.
Range oven, dual fuel
Gas burners over an electric oven — what most remodels here settle on.
Not sure which
Ranges are the awkward case: no single published position covers every professional range, so reading the number out on the phone beats hunting.
Reading what you find
The letters carry more than the digits: electric or gas, one cavity or two, built in or part of a range. Photograph the whole plate rather than copying it out — the serial is what separates two ovens wearing one model number.
| The oven you have | Where the plate sits | What the letters say |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in electric oven | Top left of the oven door opening, under the control panel. | VSOE and VDOE — single and double cavity, electric. |
| French door oven | Same position: top left of the door opening, under the panel. | VSOF and VDOF — a built-in whose door splits in two. |
| Earlier professional wall oven | Door opening, as above. | VESO and VEDO — professional electric, single and double. |
| Gas wall oven | The base, behind the lower access panel. | VGSO — built in, gas burner under the cavity. |
| Range oven, gas or dual fuel | No published position covers every range. Read it to us. | One model number for the whole appliance. |
Follow-ups
What if the plate has worn blank?
It happens on the older cavities, and it is not the end of it. A photograph of the control panel, the door and the cabinet opening usually narrows a Viking down to one family, and Viking Pro Repair Denver can take it from there on (720) 790-9436.
Is the serial number as useful as the model number?
More useful, often. Two ovens carrying one model number can have different controls depending on when they were built, and the serial is what separates them. Read both to Viking Pro Repair Denver on (720) 790-9436 and the right part travels.
Do I need to pull the oven out to find it?
No, and please do not. Everything in this chapter is reachable with the door open and the lower panel visible from the front. Anything that needs the appliance moved is a Viking Pro Repair Denver job, booked on (720) 790-9436 rather than attempted.
